Another gully washer

Well that makes two days in a row that we have had a good old fashioned ‘gulley washer’ as they used to call them in the south.  I would not be surprised to find out it rained about 2 inches in just an hour.  It was raining so hard that you could barely see the road from inside the house.  We have needed a lot of rain and we have done far better than expected lately.  My yard is happy and so is my garden and flowers.  The extra work the rain brings with it doesn’t make me too happy but we do need the water so I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Garden

There are a lot of people around my neighborhood that have gardens.  Most of them have more than they need so they have been putting the extras in their front yard for sale cheaper than you can buy them in the grocery store.  Sweetie and I just bought tomatoes for a dollar a pound and cantaloupes for a dollar each.  I prefer buying these things from individuals because it helps them out in these tight times and they are so much better than what you can get at the grocery store.

Sweeties allergies

Sweetie has allergies and for some reason, they have been giving her a fit.  I thought maybe we should invest in a really good air cleaner.  The problem is there are so many out there that I wasn’t sure what was a good one and what wasn’t.

I checked into  cleaning cigarette smoke from the air after some of my buddies came over for a card game one night.  Man did I learn a great deal about air cleaners.  In fact, we ordered one with a Hepa filter which is supposed to be the best for allergies.  It should be here soon and Sweetie will be hopefully feeling better right after that.

Safe tick removal

This was sent to me through an email and I thought it was important enough to post on here.
A School Nurse has written the info below — good enough to share, and it really works!! I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick.  This is great, because it works in those places where it’s some times difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc.
Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I’ve used it (and that was frequently), and it’s much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.  Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can’t see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor’s wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn’t reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, ‘It worked!’  Everyone needs this helpful hint this time of year.

Perfect Day!!!

We just had the most perfect day and it couldn’t have been better if I had custom ordered it.  A bunch of us got together and went to a local lake on a friend’s pontoon and had a blast.  We fished, (I caught the biggest one) we played music, we laughed and we just had a great time.  It wasn’t too hot or humid.  I’m telling you it was a perfect day.  There’s nothing better than being on the water, sunshine, and good friends and I had it all today including my lady by my side.  Awesome day!!!!
